EVERYTHING IS NOT WRITTEN IN A JOB DESCRIPTION / KRA / KPI !!!!

Amitabh is very passionate about the organization he has created. As the business is expanding, team members are increasing. He realizes, the employee information, and office pulse he once had, is not as tight.

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR TO WHAT YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH?

Everything is not in written in Job description.

Now since employee interaction is limited, the source of office information, is limited to 1 -2 people. Rahul being one. Amitabh still needs to know the ground realties as prevalent in the organization.

Over the time, Rahul has become his ‘informer’ – (for the want of better word). And become close to Amitabh.

Today he is sitting with Rohan, for his performance review.
Amitabh is perplexed. How to now hold Rahul to account for his non-performance?

Have you experienced this in your career?

Here is an option to consider.

  • Strengthen the bridge with Rahul. Continue to hold informal meeting and bond with him
  • Keep in mind, it takes effort and time for Rahul to network with employees, for him to know the ground realities.
  • Redesign the job expectation and clearly communicate to Rahul. Reduce his responsibilities to mere important ones.
  • Restructure your organization
  • Add another employee to Rahul’s team.
  • Shift some of Rahul’s responsibilities to the new person.
  • Now it is justified to evaluate his performance on reduced responsibilities. You can clearly communicate to Rahul, about his non-performance, if any.

Any more options, you can share.
